Carolino Rice from Lezíria Ribatejana – PGI

IGP Rice

PGI – Protected Geographical Indication is a European Union scheme used to designate a product that maintains a relation with the geographical environment where it was produced. When purchasing a PGI product, the consumer is ensured that the product is authentic, with unique taste and aroma, and was subjected to strict independent control throughout the entire production process.

And this was the 2008 qualification obtained by Carolino Rice produced by Orivárzea, which originated the Carolino Rice from Lezírias Ribatejanas name, the first rice designation to receive a PGI qualification within national territory. As all rice produced by Orivárzea, this Carolino of the Aríete variety is also exclusively produced in Ribatejo, in the wetlands formed by the Tagus, Sorraia and Almansor rivers through the districts of Benavente, Salvaterra de Magos, Vila Franca de Xira, Azambuja, and Coruche.
